The idea behind lifestyle management is that individuals focus on using behavioral strategies to make gradual changes in diet and physical activity. There is no "magic bullet" formula for determining the appropriate amount of diet, physical activity, or behavior change necessary to affect weight. However, guidelines have been established for each of the components and age and relative level of beginning activity should always be considered when starting lifestyle management.
